What To Bring & What NOT To Bring to Summer Camp 2012

What to Bring

  • Complete Scout uniform
  • T-shirts
  • Shorts and/or long pants
  • Swim trunks
  • Sunscreen
  • Underwear
  • Socks
  • Hat
  • Sweatshirt or jacket
  • Extra shoes or boots
  • No Opened Toe Shoes are allowed
  • Book bag or Day Pack
  • Poncho or rain gear
  • Notebook and pen/pencil
  • Scout Handbook
  • Merit badge pamphlets
  • Watch (important)
  • Washcloth and Towels
  • Toiletries (soap, shampoo, tooth paste, etc. NO GLASS)
  • Flashlight w/batteries
  • Sleeping bag and blanket
  • Pocketknife
  • Wallet w/some form of ID
  • Money for camp store, craft supplies, etc
  • Canteen or Water bottle

What NOT to Bring

  • Firearms
  • Ammunition
  • Bows
  • Sheath knives
  • Pets – please share with your parents to ensure NO pets are brought during Family Night.
  • Generators
  • Radios
  • Air conditioners
  • Video games
  • MP3 players
  • Cell phones are discouraged and are prohibited in ALL program areas.



Leaving For Summer Camp This Sunday

This Sunday at 12:30pm we’ll meet in the Lenoir Mall parking lot – on the old Belks side close to Mulberry Rec.

If you have not submitted a Health Form – this is your absolute last chance, so bring it with you or you cannot attend summer camp.

Family Night at Camp Bud Schiele 2012

When:  Thursday, June 21st @ 4:30 p.m. – no family members will be allowed in camp before 4:30pm
Where:  Camp Bud Schiele, 668 Boy Scout Road, Rutherfordton, NC

What to bring:  Each Family is asked to bring a side dish, dessert and/or a drink to share.  Also bring your own chair!
What NOT to bring: Family pets

A sign-up sheet will be distributed in June.

Please remember to sign up to bring food and let Amy Green know how many folks you will bring with you so we can be sure to order enough meat to serve everyone.

Summer Camp 2012 – Classes and Schedule

Get ready for a fantastic summer camp this year by choosing the best classes for you!

Download the Summer Classes and Schedule below and read through it carefully and more than once.  You’ll find recommendations for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd year campers as well as evening classes and courses for older Scouts.  Plus a breakdown of Program and Merit Badge Kit fees.

There’s a lot of information there to help you choose a program that best fits your needs.  Please feel free to talk with our Scoutmaster or an Assistant Scoutmaster about the classes.  They’d be happy to help guide you in making the choices and answer any questions you may have.

Quest for the Sword of Leonidas

Each week, the troop with the highest score based on the following criteria will be presented with Sword of Leonidas Award for 2012. The winner will receive a plaque, which can be proudly displayed in the troop’s meeting place. The following activities are subject to change, including additions and deletions.

25 Campsite inspection (Max. 5 pts. Per day)
30 Participation in the 3 SPL Meetings (10 pts. Per Meeting)
25 Completion of Approved Service or Conservation Project (Max 20 pts.)
20 Participation in the Canoe Race
20 Participation in the Troop Catapult Challenge
45 Participation in the Grand Ole Adventure (5 pts-1st Place, 4 pts-2nd Place, 3 pts-3rd place, 2pts-participation)
25 Attend Vespers as a Troop
25 Participate in One of the following (Max 25pts): Troop Shower House Clean-up,
Troop Flag Ceremony, OR Mealtime Grace
50 Unit cleared by Steward for cleanliness of
dining hall facility (Max. 5 pts. Per Meal, from 10 random meals during the week.)
50 Attend Evening Flag Ceremonies (10 points per meal—5pts for uniform, 5pts attending)
15 Participate in the Chariot Race
15 Participate in the Troop Gateway Challenge
5 Earn the OA Camp Participation Award (60% of the Troop’s Registered Scouts attend Camp)

Our registration for Summer Camp 2012 has been done.  As usual, some classes filled very quickly so many of us had to go with our second choices.

Please review your classes and schedule and let us know ASAP is you would like to make any changes. The full roster is available on the site but is for registered website users only.  Register with the site and/or login and it’s available under both the Troop Only and Summer Camp 2012 sections of the site.
